This year Lake Hartwell, the man made lake that generates power for residents all around the area will celebrate 50 years. Lake Hartwell was started in 1955 and finished in 1963 by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The Lake's hydroelectirc power plant started serving the area residents in 1962. This 55,900 acres of water which has nearly 1,000 miles of shore line spanning through Georgia and South Carolina provides recreation to residents throughout the Southeast who enjoy boating, swimming, fishing, hiking and wildlife conservation. During 2012 towns all around Lake Hartwell will host celebrations, festivals and history events educating and celebrating the rich history of this amazing man-made power generating Lake, to local residents and tourists alike. We recognize this 6-month long celebration because we ourselves enjoy Lake Hartwell and our many wonderful customers in the many cities surrounding the Lake.
